Fall Magic & What’s Coming Next... ✨

Hi there!
Fall is one of those seasons that sneaks up on you and then takes your breath away. One week it’s warm and green, and the next — boom — the trees outside the studio are glowing like fire. It’s been the perfect backdrop for this year’s Fall Mini Sessions, and I can’t say enough how thankful I am for all the families who joined me out among the leaves (and occasionally, the wind gusts — this is Minnesota, after all).
The studio has been full of color, laughter, and the kind of joyful chaos that comes with photographing little ones chasing leaves or proudly showing off their “photo smiles.” Every fall season reminds me why I love what I do — the way families grow and change, yet somehow, the energy stays the same: warm, real, and full of love.
🍂 What’s New at the Studio
With fall minis wrapping up, the studio is in full transformation mode. Props are being packed away, the lighting’s shifting to that soft winter glow, and yes… a few twinkle lights have already made an appearance. I like to think of this in-between time as a creative reset — it’s when I get to plan, reflect, and dream up what’s next.
I’ve also been spending time teaching photography in local high schools this fall, helping students explore storytelling through the lens. Watching them light up when they realize how much power a single image can hold — that’s been a gift all its own.
📸 Family Tip of the Month: Keep It Simple
If your family photos are coming up (or you’re already thinking about your next session), my biggest piece of advice this season is don’t overthink it. Cozy sweaters, jeans, and outfits you can move in always photograph best. Think textures over patterns, and let your family’s personality shine more than your wardrobe.
And if you’re taking photos at home or at the pumpkin patch, remember — the best photos are the ones where everyone’s doing something. Let the kids play, toss some leaves, or giggle through the tickles. Real moments always beat perfect poses.
🧡 Fall Fun Around Minnesota
If you’re looking for a few local ways to soak up fall before the snow (inevitably) flies, here are a few favorites from my annual list:
🍎 Afton Apple Orchard: Hot cider + hayrides = the perfect weekend.
🚶 Como Park & Longfellow Gardens: Still a few pops of color left — and quieter crowds for walks.
🎃 Sever’s Fall Festival: Corn maze, pumpkin patch, and so many photo ops.

✨ Something Storybook Is Coming
Okay, here’s the part I’ve been so excited to share. While the fall leaves have been swirling outside, something truly special has been coming together inside the studio.
This year’s holiday minis are designed to feel calm, classic, and full of nostalgia — the kind of experience that feels like stepping into the pages of a winter storybook. Think soft textures, neutral tones, the gentle glow of twinkle lights, and a sense of stillness that lets your family simply be.
I wanted to create something that goes beyond the typical “holiday setup.” Something that feels timeless — more about connection and story than props and poses. A space where laughter and quiet moments both belong.
You’ll see more soon, but here’s a little hint:
The playlist is ready (soft piano and vintage holiday tunes), the cocoa bar is stocked, and I may or may not have tested the lighting with my dogs. 😉
The full reveal drops October 20, but until then, keep an eye on my socials — I’ll be sharing little behind-the-scenes peeks throughout the week.
Wishing you slow mornings, warm drinks, and a season full of love, laughter, and light.
